Classes

Class descriptions:

Pole Classes:

All classes include a half hour warm up and strengthening.  The second half of the class is spins on the pole. Consistency is best for maximum results.

Level 1 is for beginners with the floor work that starts to build upper body and core strength.  Then, learning the technique for doing simple spins and more elaborate spins.

Level 2 and up – the classes progress from Level 2 and up where you are stronger with continuous floor work so you can do fancier spins. Graceful walking between spins along with dance movement is added to create routines. Climbing and inverting happen in the upper levels when you are stronger.

Mixed Classes – drop-in with $20.00 – catch a class when you can.  If you are in an 8-week class you can use them as make-ups. Extra pole practice time for 8-week ladies – $20.00. Living Social ladies can use their vouchers.

Make up classes – use the Mixed class or another one of your Levels classes on a different day and time of the week.   Check the calendar.

Lauren Hicks

I've been a licensed Zumba instructor for over a year and absolutely love it!! I enjoy it because Zumba is fun (not a word I associate with working out) and ANYONE can do it. I was so excited to find a way to get healthy and fit without running as part of my routine. I have a dance background including Jazz, Modern, Lyrical and Hip hop. Zumba has its own movements and energy which I fell in love with during the very first Zumba class I took. I am thrilled to share the energy through teaching Zumba!

Xiaolin Wang, RYT, MS

Xiaolin is an American Yoga Alliance registered yoga teacher and holds a master degree in HeaIth Promotion from American University. She started practicing yoga in 1998 and has been teaching  since 2005. She did her yoga teacher training program with Susan Nuys and Doug Keller.  She also studied with world-class yoga teachers Judith Lasater, Tias Little and Barbara Benagh.

Xiaolin has particular interests in anatomy. Her teaching focuses on each person's optimal alignment in the poses. Her approach is warm, non-judgmental and responsive to individual differences and needs. Xiaolin also offers easy and practical tips to her students and encourages them to apply yoga to everyday life so that they can truly live their yoga.

As a lifelong fitness enthusiast with over 25 years teaching group exercise classes, I began taking yoga as a college credit in the early 1990's.  My children were young and I fell in love with the feeling of serenity when practicing yoga, which was very different from the classes I was teaching (go for the burn)! in the 1980's and 1990's.

Christina Griczin

My practice has evolved to where I wanted to share the experience with other stressed out people of all ages, abilities, and cultures, as yoga is truly for everyone.  I took my 200 hour teacher training from Cynthia Bialek, YAVAYOGA,  that emphasizes proper form, breathing, and modifications so that participants of all levels can progress at their own pace.  Focus will be on moving the spine in flexion, extension, lateral flexion, and rotation,  increasing flexibility, reducing stress, and becoming more self aware.
